BNNT’s provide a heat tolerant structural integration with ceramic formulations and provide significant mechanical improvement to the hardness and durability of the ceramic compound. Research is currently underway for better automotive brake components, more wear-resistant bearing surfaces and specialised heat resistant coatings for space travel and aviation. In addition to improving hardness and ability to withstand high temperatures, the BNNT’s provide even greater radiation shielding capabilities for certain ceramic products used in space and aviation applications.
